Welcome to Fazeena Persaud's and Nzeka Chuma's Sketch, both are members of Soccer Arena football group.
Ts - Hello Fazeena Persaud, trust you're doing great?
I'm about to interview you on behalf of The Sketch team.
As you well know, this is a special sketch, as it will be released on the day of our 4th year Anniversary as a group.
Topic in focus is Before and After, yeah, like the make over thing.
Let's get started, as it seems time is no longer friendly these days.
You should expect certain questions about your childhood to spring up, because you're a grown babe now in the 'afters' stage of your life(lol). The central topic will be 'Change' and how you percieve change. Ready?
Muse -
Hello Sketch team, thank you for the honor of having my sketch published on our anniversary. Soccer Arena is a special place for me. I apologize in advance to all the readers, since this would be a long and boring read. I tried attaching a video of me twerking as a reward, but the sketch team would have none of it, sorry ๐.
Ts - laughs
Ts - Ok let's take of, Who invited you to Soccer Arena?
Muse -
Spotless
Ts - How long have you been here? And what was your first impression like when you joined?
Muse -
I can't clearly remember how long, but I think almost 3.5 years. My first impression when I joined; "wow this place is packed with intelligent footy enthusiasts and lovers, am I gonna fit in?"
Ts - You are in your? (early twenties? Mid twenties? late twenties? Early 30s?)
Muse - late twenties (29 to be precise)
Ts - How many siblings do you have?
Muse - 1
Ts - How have your siblings changed over the years, in their attitude towards you? Negatively or positively?
Muse -
Well it's really been a roller coaster of emotions, my brother's attitude towards me has mostly been a direct result of my actions. There are times he was proud of what I achieved, other times disappointed at me because he knows I have the potential to do so much more and thus his attitude was based on those feelings. One thing is certain though, the love is unconditional, since the passing of our mother, our bond has been stronger than ever.
Ts - Joining Soccer Arena and even becoming an Admin, I'm sure you know your share of arena lore.
Now tell us what you think has changed positively in soccer arena?
Muse -
hahahaha omg the memories lol...I guess since we were all new to each other, there has always been a level of immaturity and disrespect among some of us, because of differing opinions. One friend of mine told me that Nigerians are sometimes egotistical and will attack your entire family to prove they are right, so that was how i thought when we had tiffs. Now I don't see that as much, we have all matured and learnt to respect each other's opinions. Tolerance and respect are steps towards positive changes.
Ts - Alittle footy now, before your Barcelona days, What was your attraction to teams. The same attraction that made you start supporting Barcelona?
Muse -
Sexy men in shorts!!! Are u kidding me?! ๐๐, seriously though, I have never been one to follow the crowd, cricket has been, and is still the main sport of Guyanese, so I wanted to deviate. I remember watching Brazil winning the 1994 World Cup on my cousin's shoulder, since at that time we couldn't afford TVs, so we all gathered at the only person whose house had a TV to view. I thought to myself, Wow! look at people and the energy, of course I was too young to understand the technicalities of the game, and it was totally foreign to me. So at that point, the fans were who made me fall in love with the beautiful game, until I started learning the game. Since there wasn't much exposure to football in Guyana, because of lack of sponsorship to local tv stations (because cable was a thing of the future lol), there was little to no coverage of the game, so it was hard to follow. We only had World Cup games, and a few club games here and there. Ronaldinho was my love, I followed what little I could of him, until the latter of the 90s to early 2000s, when the sport had finally become somewhat popular in Guyana, and availability to the games were better so I could have followed Ronaldinho everywhere. So I had really been a one man fan until 2003 when he landed in Barca, then and there I fell in love with a team. I researched their history, and I can say it's a love story that's still strong today. I remain loyal!! (Except to Ronaldinho since Messi took over ๐)
Ts - Let's step away from football a bit.
Ts - How do U define your time? Coping with business, work, relationship, Soccer Arena, Family?
Muse -
Chaotic?! I don't know lol...I try to manage but work mostly take all of my time, at the end of the day I'm so drained. I hardly have energy to do anything. I would really like to apologize to my SA BBM group for my absence.
Ts - Is there any adjustment you have had to make after you joined, that is, due to your soccer Arena membership?
Muse -
None I can think of.
Ts - How does it feel like being the only foreigner in the group? Have you ever felt like a stranger here?
Muse -
Amazing, una are extra nice to me coz I'm a foreigner๐. I have never felt like a stranger, it was surprising how you guys accepted me as a part of your family, and showed me nothing but love. I heart you all.
Ts - We heart you too our dear Muse
Ts - Growing up, who was ur Crush? What were your 'childish' qualities you wanted in a guy then?(that is if you're straight)
Muse-
I have always wanted a guy to come sweeping me off my feet with his ruggedly handsome face, a bit of facial hair, some tattoos and a man bun....in other words a badass ๐๐๐
Ts - With age and maturity, what has changed now about your perception and expectation from a man you want to be with?
Muse -
Growing up, we read fairy tales and were told of "Prince Charming", "Knight in Shining Armor", "Mr. Perfect", and "Mr. Right". So as a young girl, I expected Mr. Right to be perfect, ride in on his white horse and sweep me off my feet! As I grew older, I would learn otherwise. Now I'm wise enough to know that there aren't any perfect man. I have no expectations. If my path crosses with someone whom I connect with, then I will adjust and compromise on his qualities. No one should have to change to meet my requirements. Realistically, we are never going to find all the qualities we perceive in a soul mate, so why expect and be disappointed? Accept someone as they are, don't try to tailor make them to your specifications. Love is best unconditionally.
Ts - Can you differentiate between self love and selfishness? Where do you draw the line?
Muse -
There really is a very very thin line between the two. One is often perceived as the other. Self-love has nothing to do with vanity or superficial undertones. It has everything to do with respect, self-actualization and choosing joy for yourself and your life. Self-love is possible when we understand what it is not. The fear of selfishness carries the energy of shame. You feel bad to say no, and often bad saying yes. You feel trapped – without a real choice. Retrospectively, you may feel burnt-out, resentful or overloaded.
Giving from your heart actually feels good. You feel connected and open to the person you’re giving to. Giving out of the fear of selfishness feels tense and draining. The fear of selfishness makes us want to run to a cave and hide. It drives us to give, but in measured doses and only with so much enthusiasm. In contrast, self love makes us feel open, empathetic and eager to make a difference where we can, it invites in joy and ease. Everyone benefits because we show up as our best self.
Ts - hmmm, a whole of wisdom flowing in
Ts - How was parental love expressed to you in your childhood?
Muse -
I grew up in a single parent family, with my mom who worked as hard as she could to ensure i got the best life. The sacrifices she made for me, and my brother, so that we didn't miss our father. She tried her best to not see us lacking. Her love was unconditional as is every parent, we could do no wrong in her eyes even when we were really wrong. It's really sad she couldn't live longer to reap the fruits of her labor. Rest Peacefully in Heaven Mommy ๐๐
Ts - A minute silence, sniffs back tears
Ts - Growing up, do U remember anytime U were humiliated or Abused? Pls share n how did U handle it? How would you have handled it now?
Muse -
I have never been abused or humiliated, but I do have a funny flashback to high school years...I went to a strict school, so on a morning I was caught being late (I'm usually late most times but sneak in easily during prayers lol), my Accounts teacher made me run around the school yard ten times!!!
Ts - lol! I can imagine a running little Faz then
Ts - Any addiction you had while growing up that you find quite funny now?
Muse -
Not an addiction really but a habit, a strange one, thinking of it now makes it more weird than funny! Would roll paper and push up my nose. *this explains why I have huge nostrils I guess* ๐
Ts - crazy stuff
Ts - they say a leaf never falls too far from the tree. If someone disagreed with you as a kid, how did you face it? Any similarity now after all these years?
Muse -
I would kick their butt!!! ๐...seriously though, the way I deal with disagreements now is exactly how I did growing up. My mom has always taught me that not everyone will see eye to eye on everything. If someone disagrees with you, you try your best to somehow convince them of your point, while being respectful, because you might be right. If you still can't get through to them, then you respect their opinion and apologize, if you hurt their feelings while trying to put across your point.
Ts - Where you an outgoing kid? A happy one? An inquisitive or grumpy...infact what kind of kid were you?
Muse -
I was a combination of all of those.
Ts - Any difference between how you express emotion, most especially anger as a kid with how you do so now?
Muse -
When I was younger, I used to express anger by breaking stuff, until my mom said that I will have to replace everything I broke, lol....since then I have expressed almost all emotions through tears. I'm very emotional, every Arenite knows this, so I cry a lot. Sometimes I find an isolated area, most times it's by the ocean, scream at the top of my lungs, cry my heart out, then come home and eat a ton of ice cream and chocolates and feel better.
Ts - lols, cry baby
Ts - What was the best, most remarkable thing that ever happened in your life?
Muse -
This might surprise you guys, but for me it was the moment an elderly lady, whom I usually did little things for like, cooking meals for her, sometimes her laundry, or cleaned her house because, she was a sweet old lady whom I loved spending time with because, she reminded me so much of my own grandmother, placed her hands on my head and blessed me. I would never forget it. She said "daughter, I pray for you every day, I pray you are always happy, you achieve whatever you endeavor to, I will not be here 10 years from now, but when I meet my Maker, I will surely remind him of how special he has created you." Unfortunately she passed, RIP aunty Lily ❤️
Ts - Aww! So touching
Ts - What was the saddest thing that ever happened in your childhood?
Muse -
My father leaving the family.
Ts - Mention one thing that used to bring you joy and satisfaction as a kid and now as an adult, still does?
Muse - FOOD
Ts - What's your favourite
Muse - Pizzaaaaaa ๐๐
Ts - What do you think changed about the way kids used to behave in the past and how they do now?
Muse -
Everything. As a kid if I disrespected an adult, my mom wouldn't hesitate to slap the heck outta me, especially in public. Now kids have the nerve to tell their own parents, much less strangers, to go f*#k themselves. The attitude these days is appalling. As a kid I was taught to help someone in need, now kids video someone in need and post it on social media. Society has changed so much.
Ts - What is your take on child raising when it comes to spirituality?
Muse -
It's important a child must know of his/her roots, the path his/her parents and their parents followed. When they become adults and have enough information, then they are free to walk their own paths. But as kids, they must be taught to identify with a religion, as this help to mould their future and upbringing.
Ts - Before and after, boyfriend edition, lol. Do you remain friends with former partners(ex)?
Muse-
Yes, I don't see any reason not to. I do believe that an ex still has a piece of your heart. You just can't forget someone whom you once loved so much, no matter what.
Ts - Just curious, can you love any man enough to quit, ok, not quit but limit the way you watch football for?
Muse -
HELL NO!!!
Ts - What did you see in your most recent guy(whether present or now past) lacking in others?
Muse -
It really would have been unfair to compare, since everyone has their own unique self. Again it goes back to my earlier answer, it's about who I can connect with, by this, i mean on an emotional level. If we have a connection and chemistry, then everything else will fall into place. PSA: I'm single at the moment, just putting that out there (Mazi Ezeugo 1 of ๐ณ๐ฌ you hear me?)
Ts - I believe Mazi should be around somewhere seeing this.
Ts - Do you fall in love with a new guy based on what you see in him, lacking in a past one or what you do not see in him that you saw in the past one? Meaning, are you on the 'searching train' or 'corrective train'?
Muse -
I'm not on any train. My love has no prerequisites or deal breakers. Again I say, if there's a connection between us, then love might just happen.
Ts - Before meets after. Has any of your Adams met any of your 'presents'. Was it awkward?
Muse - Nope.
Ts - How do you want your marriage to mirror that of your parents, and how do you want it to differ?
Muse-
Don't want it to mirror my parents at all. It's the reason I'm still single at 29. My marriage should be the opposite of my parents. My marriage should be an adventure every day with someone who will be my best friend and willing to tolerate me for the rest of his life. Once he is in it, it's literally till death do us part baby!!!
Ts - Back to football
Ts - What do you think about life before and after players like Carles Puyol? How has Barcelona coped?
Muse -
Ah Puyol!!! What can I say of him? I really don't know of much before him because, I basically started following Barca during the Ronaldinho time, but I know with him we had the freaking best defense line in Europe. He was always animated and motivated everyone on the field to be their best. After him, it's evident we have missed him. Our defense has been shaky. We haven't coped well at all but we survived. Puyol is irreplaceable and there is no one I have seen yet who I can safely say is going to truly fill that void he left!
Ts - Will u leave Barcelona with Messi after he leaves the club?
Muse -
What do you mean "after"??? Do you have information I'm not aware of?! You better be referring to his retirement oooo ๐ however, IF Messi does leave, I will follow him but I will not leave Barca! I came to Barca for Ronaldinho and I'm still here.
Ts - Suggest any make over in the Spanish league which you would enforce as the F.A chairman or Barcelona president?
Muse -
Eliminate buy out clauses totally!!! Also try to work out a deal where teams 4th through 8th are awarded better funds to properly strengthen their squad, so they can truly challenge for the title. So we can put this "LALiga is a 2 horse race" talk to rest. We all know La Liga teams are capable enough to take down any team from any other league, it's evident from the amount of UEFA trophies we have accumulated, but still our league is not regarded as "competitive enough".
Ts - Who is your present favourite player in Barcelona, tell us what puts him cut above the rest?
Muse -
Lionel Andrรฉs Messi, I believe I don't need to explain what puts him above the rest.
Ts - Who is a player from the past you would wish was in d present team and why?
Muse -
Xavi! The Maestro!!! His work in midfield is second to none!!! We need that again.
Ts - Which has been your most hurting defeat?
Muse -
May 2013, Barca 0-7 Bayern Munich UCL semis.
Ts - Do you think Barcelona fans are beginning to change their perception of football?
Muse -
Honestly I don't know. They seem the same to me on the blogosphere. We are so spoilt I guess, it's hard for us to get out what we perceive as the "Barca brand of football" from our minds. We are not ready for change, and want to win everything, when clearly what once worked doesn't work anymore. I do hope though that we become brave enough to embrace change.
Ts - Among your rivals, which team did you use to resent playing before and which team do you detest playing now?
Muse-
Was, still, and will always be our #1 arch rivals Real Madrid, though El Classicos are exciting.
Ts - Paint a picture of Guyanese national team football in the '90s and now. Do you like the picture you see now?
Muse -
There's no picture jor. Football was basically non existent in the 90s and its sh!t now. Have you ever heard of Guyana any where near FIFA WC qualifications? Or a Guyanese player in any leagues?!
Ts - Before and after, right? Have you ever been made to swallow your boast after a football game? When?
Muse -
Nope, because I don't boast. I predict wins and banter from time to time, but I don't boast at all. It's not that I can't, but it's just not who I am. Boasting leads to expectations, which cause disappointments. (Unfortunately I always have expectations in football!! Goddamnit ๐ก๐ก๐ก)
Ts - Looking generally at football 10 yrs ago & football today, which of the changes(in attitude or technicality) do u not agree with or what would u change differently?
Muse -
Football these days is less a sport, and more a business. See the ludicrous amount of money involved?!! Chei!!!!! I wish we could go back to the days money wasn't the main motivation but love for the game and a team was. The technicalities I can agree with, since they make the games better and fair, though sometimes refs do get wrong calls sometimes.
Ts - As Barcelona coach, what will you tell the boys losing 2-0 at home to Alaves at half time?
Muse -
Find your balls and wrap this game up!!!!!
Ts - If you were Barcelona coach, and Messi is given a red card at the 23rd minute, what substitutions will you make, and what formation will you devise to win the match?
Muse -
Difficult question, there's no substitutions that can and will do for Barca what Messi can, also I would have fielded my best 11 at the start of the match, however if it does come to it, and my hand is forced, then I will change to a 3-4-2 formation. Assuming we started with a 3-4-3 or a 4-4-3.
Ts - Give us your perceptions on the following? Ready?(short answers)
Ts - Barcelona after Pep?
Muse -
Still one of the biggest and best clubs. We have the trophies to prove it.
Ts - Real Madrid after Zidane?
Muse -
The best team on the planet right now.
Ts - Football after Ronaldo and Messi?
Muse -
Boring....no other 2 person can have this rivalry again! These 2 will forever be remembered as the greatest who changed the game (Pele and Maradona who?!)
Ts - Africa after you met Soccer Arena? -
Muse -
Different from what the world knows, thanks to the few bad ones who use their education to scam others.
Ts - Barcelona after Messi
Muse -
I hate to imagine it, but we will find a way to survive after he retires.
Ts - Arsenal after Wenger?
Muse-
Hehehehe trophy winning club once again.
Ts - Thanks for your time.
Muse -
Phew the end?? You are very welcome!!
Ts - Just few more questions!
Muse -
Oh wait! There's more?! ๐คฆ♀️
Ts - Do you think God Exist? If yes, how do you communicate with him?
Muse -
Yes! Through what's in my heart and my actions towards others.
Ts- Your favourite 5 Arenites?
Muse -
Please don't set me up! All of you guys are my favorite!!!!
Ts - Among our ex members, who would you want to have back again?
Muse - My Queen ๐
Ts - How do you see Nigerians?
Muse -
Smart, intelligent, full of potential individuals who can be cocky at times ๐ but I love you guys!!!! My extended family ❤️
Ts - Arenite you would love to date?
Muse -
Is this even a question? Una nor see how many times I say I'm crushing on Mazi?! I even proposed to him na, but apparently he like only Nigerian girls so I am heartbroken๐
Ts - haha, shameless Faz
Ts - Do u have a personal 'before & after' experience? share?
Muse -
Before I did this interview I was full, after this interview I am hungry!!! ๐๐๐
Ts -Kolo
Ts - The next question is in Pidgin, and a pidgin reply is expected.
Wetin be your religion and how you take join them?
Muse -
I tell you I deh in any religious group? I be humanitarian jor. I have followed a little bit of the 3 main religions in Guyana, and I absolutely disagree with them trying to put each other down while trying to convince people to join theirs. Them for learn to respect themselves and others. Make them say wetin make them better than the other, without insulting, and give people the option to make their decisions. No come form greatness and put the others down. Abeg God send them?
Muse -
I tried lol. U can pidginize it more please. That's all i know.
Ts - Hehehehe.....fair enough!
Ts - Which are the three main religions in Guyana?
Muse -
Hinduism, Islam and Christianity
Ts - Any plans to visit Nigeria soon?
Muse -
I will surely visit one day. I have to see you all!!!
Ts - Final words
Muse-
I just want to say a big thank you to you all for accepting me in SA, for treating me like family, for always being understanding and tolerating me. I have learnt so much from each and everyone of you. You guys make my days better. I wish we continue this relationship for a long time. One Love SA!!!
THE END.....
