United played Stoke and are looking to close the gap on the others but it didn't go as planned, it ended 1-1 with Rooney scoring his 250th goal for his club. Here is the analysis from the game.
United started badly by conceding early with an own goal from Juan Mata, we could all easily point our finger at mata and wish not to talk about the game. But aside from the blemish on Juan Mata here is something for take home during the cause of the game. Man U made few tweaks to their game.
Pogba playing with more purpose as a ball handler had its good and bad to the game. Zlatan trying to be a selfless striker come out short in the entire encounter. From a goal down in the early stages chasing the game. Early flashes form ZLATAN, Pogba, Valencia, and Mata let hope alive
But critical areas of note is United lacks transition from defense to attack Pogba saddled with that responsibility seems to measure up lesser than Expectations. Fantastic player on the ball but delays passes unnecessarily which most times gives Stoke enough time to regroup to a strong unit. Mata was less initiative with Mkhitaryan doing same like was they ended up doing the same thing cutting in from wide to give the full backs width. Herrera and Fellaini were industrious as usual but lacked the cutting edge. The tempo of the attack increased when Rashford came in. This helped stretched stoke the more with valencia on the right from overlapping and rashford cutting in from ur left. The equalizer wasnt from open play but they increased attacking intensity made Stoke result to fouling just to protect their goal mouth and it resulted in the equalizer.
Manchester United will be unhappy not to close the gap on the top four teams but they will at least be glad for their skipper Rooney who scored his 250th goal for the club, he scored a tremendous free kick to end the game.
