Fosu - Mensah - I look up to this Dutch star

The promising Dutch defender has a team-mate at Old Trafford he knew very well even before his arrival in England as a youth player back in 2014
Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has described how he looked up to Daley Blind while coming through the ranks at Ajax.

The duo both joined United in 2014, with Blind an established first-team player coming off the back of a World Cup and Fosu-Mensah a teenager who would wait two years to make his senior debut.

They are now competing for a place in the same defence, but the 18-year-old has been learning lessons from his elder team-mate even before they arrived at Old Trafford.

"I can remember I was 14, I think, and I asked [for his boots], because always I asked the players for their boots," he told United's official website.

"I asked for Daley's boots but his feet were so small and I had really bigger feet than Daley [even] at that time, so there was no need for me to get his boots - but I still took them!

"I can remember watching him play for the second team of Ajax and at the time I was maybe in the Under-14s or Under-15s. I can remember it very well. I've seen him one time, also, in the Under-19s, he played in a match that if they won, they would be the champion.

"After that he went to Groningen on loan and later, when I was 15, 16, most of the time I was a ball boy in the [Amsterdam] Arena so I've seen him play a lot of times, and I've seen him play up close because I was ball boy and most of the times he played left-back.

"As a ball boy you're on the side [of the pitch] so I could see him very close and could see he was a good player."
