In the wake of Thursday night's 4-1 win over Fenerbahce in the Europa League, the Red Devils boss was asked why Paul Pogba took the first penalty ahead of captain Wayne Rooney.
United were quickly awarded a second spot-kick which Anthony Martial took, despite the fact Rooney was willing and able, and in need of a confidence boost.
Mourinho told BT Sport of the situation: "The first penalty-taker is Paul, we made that decision which he took and then probably he didn't want to repeat because a second penalty came and probably Martial had the previous action and he is a good penalty taker.
"Its not a problem for me, I give the indication of the one I want to take and they have the freedom to choose on the pitch."
