I guess we wonder what happened or where it all went wrong.
After watching the game; reading the post match report and following up with pundit analysis, here is my take on what transpired:
Chelsea have gone 3 straight games without conceding a goal, a massive plus for the Conte's Men and show of the maturity of tactical approach.
Chelsea had a great game with an outstanding performance and every single moment seemed to go their way.
FORMATION
3-4-3 on paper looks ordinary but with the translation on the pitch and the dynamism of movement it looks like the winning formation.
DEFENCE
The 3 mobile center backs covered the central defensive area comfortably and the wingbacks playing with feverish alacrity on the flanks ensured that no surprises sprung up.
MIDFIELD
4 dynamic midfielders positioned diagonally and tactically disciplined attacked freely and
curtailed the opposition attack seamlessly, forcing united to play horizontal balls to no effect without a single through ball between the channels.
"the bus was there but it was neither parked nor rigid;
translation:- this means that due to the dynamism in the middle Kante and Matic shared responsibilities 50-50, they both served as destroyer, anchor, and maestro as required throughout the game.
Another interesting point of note was that the pivot zone was never manned by anybody. The players rotated brilliantly with Luiz patrolling the zone like an extra destroyer and coming high up the field to completely nullify or better put eradicate any potential impact of Fellaini.
ATTACK
A fluid combination of a roaming striker, a natural winger with deft precision passing and a master dribbler completely snuffed the life out of the Manchester United defence
MANCHESTER UNITED
The usual formation ensured no surprises expected except for ocassional sparks from Rashford and Lingaard without real penetration, but they covered good distances and constantly looked for openings that almost never came. Pogba on the other hand was way out of his debt in the first half and strugglef to keep up with the dynamism of the Chelsea midfield wolf-like hunting pack. Herera was overwhelmed and very hesitant to try from distance.
UNITED ATTACKING SPELL
United attacking highlight came in two phased, the first phase was long range shots thwarted by the ultra dynamic defensive block of chelsea which was way superior to their attack. The second phase of attack was the introduction of Mata; a player blessed with the key vision to dictate the midfield without much touches and sleek passing never truly
caused direct harm but allowed a spread of play enough to force Courtios into a few great saves inside the box.
Man United didn't have a totally aweful game, but more of a bad day plus littered with cheap mistakes.
I am not excusing Jose's choice of tactics because he never measured up to the turn of events,
but in terms of statistics Courtios did a good job to keep a clean sheet.
Orchestration of their players well rehearsed movement from defense to attack shows that there is more to come from the blues.
Nothing fancy, just a well rehearsed business-like approach similar to how they slayed the reds devils.
The blues showed a higher degree of collective class without singling any player out as the main protagonist of the day. It was a well drilled team, channeled towards a common cause.
CONCLUSION
Jose needs to respond with a victory in his next game to lift the Man United team spirit. Failure to win the next game will lead to a complete loss of the famed United fear factor and lower table teams will feel empowered steal points off them as the league progresses.
Nice piece. I must say
ReplyDeleteMata did hit an over the roof top pass to Zlatan which forced Courtious to a save.

ReplyDeleteGood one, hopefully they can bounce back again and beat Man City tomorrow
ReplyDeleteBounce back?? I don't see that happening because Mou has decided to make his ego bigger than his balls.....
DeleteAweome write-up....
ReplyDeleteThis shows there is more work to be done at united....
And pls why doesn't Mou play carrick???
From a gunner fan
Maybe tactical reason. I think he will get it right soon.. I believe so
ReplyDeleteHe shud be considering Schneiderlin, not Carrick
